Ajax Building Corporation has a steadfast commitment to safety. In fact, the safety philosophy for the Midway-based building construction management firm is “no job is so important and no service so urgent that we cannot take time to perform our work safely."

Coreslab Structures, Inc. of Orlando Earns Second SHARP Certification

Coreslab Structures manufactures precast, prestressed concrete products and has locations throughout the U.S. Its Orlando facility, which is home to 24 employees, recently earned their second SHARP certification with a three-year participation approval.

For Current Builders of Pompano Beach, safety must be understood by all employees, regardless of language. "All our safety handouts and toolbox meetings are dual English/Spanish," says John Cline, safety director.

The Facility Contract Services (FCS) team that oversees the maintenance of Pembroke Pines Health Park is a "small, tight-knit group," says Site Manager Phillip Drabick. The group of 10 employees is contracted to maintain a 180-acre health park, complete with 45 buildings on its campus that is owned by the City of Pembroke Pines.

Florida's Blood Centers Earns First SHARP Recognition

Workplace safety is critical when providing blood and blood products to 70 hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout Florida. And at Florida's Blood Centers (FBC), one of the state's largest independent blood centers, the organization’s Orlando headquarters' workplace safety program is an award-winning one.

"We are committed from the top down to making safety a part of our culture, not just our favorite slogan," says Aneta Lagos, safety coordinator at JELD-WEN's Window Division, located in Venice. The worldwide manufacturer of windows and doors has five facilities in Florida. This year, their Venice location earned a SHARP award for the first time.

Moss & Associates Earns Second SHARP Renewal

Ranked among the nation's top 100 building contractors and the seventh largest in Florida, Moss & Associates provides construction management and design-build services throughout the United States, Bahamas and Caribbean. A core value for the Fort Lauderdale-based firm is safety and health, according to Brian Trusky, vice president of loss prevention. “Safety is vital to the future existence of the company,” he says.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported in May 2010 that Americans with disabilities had an unemployment rate of 14.7 percent, compared with 9.1 percent for persons with no disability, not seasonally adjusted. The SHARP award-winning Stewart-Marchman-Act (SMA) Behavioral Healthcare Enrichment Program aims to reduce that unemployment figure while at the same time keeping vulnerable workers safe.

The Printing House Earns First SHARP Award

Just four years ago, The Printing House, a producer of more than 400 high-quality, full-color magazines and publications, was on OSHA's high DART rate list. Today, the company is celebrating a safety turnaround by earning OSHA's SHARP recognition.
